At 8: Is living with younger brother Koji in an orphanage. He is constantly peeved when Koji gets better treatment by acting cute.
At 9: He is confronted by Master Shogi, and he and Koji are adopted by him. They begin training as soon as possible.
At 10: Meets Zen and Kari Lin around Master Shogi's grounds. He looks up to Zen and follows him around. Koji naturally tags along.
At 11: He meets Akiko, Zen and Kari Lin's little sister. They hang out quite a bit and Riko is happy that Akiko doesn't dote over Koji like everyone else.
At 12: Akiko is kidnapped. Riko is devastated and starts to train harder than ever.
At 14: Riko becomes the youngest in his generation to be admitted to medium-level fighter due to his hard work. The story begins.
